SAP Technology Team Lead

SAP Technology Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the technical development and delivery of SAP solutions using the ABAP programming language. This role combines hands-on development with leadership, coordination, and strategic planning.

Key Accountabilities

Technical Leadership & Development Oversight

• Lead ABAP development efforts across SAP modules (FI, MM, SD, PP, etc.).

• Conduct code reviews to ensure high quality, maintainability, and adherence to SAP best practices.

• Oversee and participate in the design, coding, unit testing, and deployment of ABAP developments:

  • Reports (ALV, classical, interactive)

  • Enhancements (User Exits, BADIs, Implicit/Explicit)

  • Interfaces (RFCs, BAPIs, IDOCs, Web Services, OData)

  • SmartForms, Adobe Forms, SAP Scripts

  • Object-Oriented ABAP and Clean Core Principles (esp. for S/4HANA)

Team Management & Resource Planning

• Lead a team of onsite/offshore ABAP developers; assign and track work.

• Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and career support to team members.

• Plan capacity and align development resources with project needs.

Project Delivery & Client Engagement

• Collaborate with functional consultants to convert business requirements into technical specifications.

• Participate in blueprinting and solution design sessions.

• Monitor development deliverables against project timelines and budgets.

• Ensure proper documentation (Technical Specs, Unit Test Cases, Peer Review Logs, etc.)

Pre-Sales & Proposal Support

• Work closely with sales and solutioning teams on RFPs/RFIs.

• Analyze client requirements and propose high-level custom development solutions.

• Estimate effort and cost for ABAP developments (custom reports, interfaces, enhancements, etc.).

• Prepare technical sections of proposals, solution decks, and architecture diagrams.

• Participate in client presentations and demo sessions showcasing custom development capabilities.

• Provide risk assessment and mitigation strategies for proposed developments.

Architecture, Innovation & Strategy

• Collaborate with solution architects to align ABAP developments with enterprise architecture.

• Advocate for clean core practices, extensibility options (key for S/4HANA), and the use of standard BTP services where possible.

• Evaluate and implement newer SAP technologies such as:

• CDS Views, AMDP, RAP (Restful ABAP Programming)

• Fiori/UI5 integration and ABAP on SAP BTP

Quality Assurance & Governance

• Establish ABAP development standards, reusable libraries, and naming conventions.

• Ensure compliance with security, performance, and audit requirements.

• Drive initiatives for code optimization, reuse, and simplification.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of experience in Design, Architecture Review, Testing and Software Development Life Cycle in ECC and S/4 Environment.

• At least 4 full cycle implementations on SAP Development involving cross Functional Modules.

• With at least 2 years experience in leading a team.

• SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA ABAP expertise.

• ABAP OO, Web Dynpro, SmartForms, AdobeForms, OData, CDS Views.

• Experience with tools like ATC, Code Inspector, SAP Solution Manager, and Jira/ServiceNow.

• Good knowledge of integration (SAP PI/PO, CPI, REST APIs and BTP Integration Suite).

• Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.

• Experience in Public/Private cloud engagement is a plus.

• Knowledge in Business Technology Platform and Business AI is a plus.

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

• Flexible, easily adaptable to change, and effectively handle a very fast paced environment.

• Experienced and has desire to work in a Global delivery environment.

• Ability to work and contributes to a team of diverse/multiple environment.
